Equal Opportunity Cell
College has established the Equal Opportunity Cell to assist and advice the student-teachers from the marginalized sections of the society who are identified as SCs, STs, OBCs, Minorities and Divyangjan. The college ensures that student-teachers from these sections are not deprived of access to educational and cultural resources for their upliftment and overall development. The Cell of the college encourages the student-teachers from socially disadvantaged groups in attaining their optimum potential in our college by getting training of teaching and learning. The college always orients such student-teachers at the time of general orientation programme about various types of scholarships schemes for completing their education. Currently, the Cell is catering to the needs of almost 100 student-teachers of both B.Ed I year and B.Ed. II year for pursuing this professional degree from the Savitribai Phule Pune, University Pune.
Aims and objectives:
- To provide guidance and counselling to student-teachers with respect to academic, financial, social and other matters and to oversee the effective implementation of policies and programmes for disadvantaged groups.
- To adopt measures to ensure due share of utilization by SC, ST, OBC, minorities in admissions, and to improve their performances in training period.
- To orient them for scholarships, which will help them receive financial support from State/Central Government and to organize interface with well-established/leading academicians from the same categories regularly so that the student-teachers are motivated towards achieving their goals.
- To make efforts to sensitize the academic community regarding the problems associated with social exclusion as well as aspirations of the marginalized communities.
- To provide them access to opportunities thorough guest-lectures and broaden their knowledge.
- To introduce to them, social welfare schemes offered by the State Government for the betterment and promotion of these classes.
Primary Functions of EOC:
The primary functions of the EOC, according to the UGC Guidelines, and as specified in the letter of the Secretary, UGC, dated 26th January 2016, are:
- To sensitize universities/colleges about the problems of the marginalized/disadvantaged sections of the society so that they are able to improve their performance not only in the education but also in other spheres of life.
- To sensitize the mainstream sections of the society towards the problems of the marginalized sections of the society.
- To monitor the various schemes/policies of the Government of India and State Governments relating to marginalized/disadvantaged sections.
- To ensure that there is an effective functional SC/ST Cell as has been mandated in the DoPT Brochure on Reservation for SC, ST & Other Backward Classes in Services.
- To also become an effective tool for gender sensitization and ensure participation in all socially relevant activities of the Universities/ Colleges and NSS.
Other functions of EOC as stated in the EOC guidelines:
- To ensure equity and equal opportunity to the community at large in the college and bring about social inclusion.
- To enhance the diversity among the students, teaching and non-teaching staff population and at the same time eliminate the perception of discrimination.
- To create a socially congenial atmosphere for academic interaction and for the growth of healthy interpersonal relationships among the students coming from various social backgrounds.
- To look into the grievances of the weaker section of society and suggest amicable solution to their problems.
- To disseminate the information related to schemes and programmes for the welfare of the socially weaker section as well as notifications/memoranda, office orders of the Government, or other related agencies/organizations issued from time to time.
- To prepare barrier free formalities/procedures for admission/registration of students belonging to the disadvantaged groups of society.
- To establish coordination with the Government and other agencies/organizations to mobilize academic and financial resources to provide assistance to students of the disadvantaged groups.
- To organize periodic meetings to monitor the progress of different schemes.
- To adopt measures to ensure due share of utilization by SC/ST in admissions, recruitments (teaching and non-teaching posts) and to improve their performances.
