Rayat Shikshan Sanstha
The founder of the premier educational institution in Asia, Late Dr. Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil was a man of masses, who devoted all his mind and heart to the cause of the education.
He had an incisive understanding of the social ills that beset his times and fully realized the dire need of the spread of education. Rayat Shikshan Sanstha was established in 1919 and value of its contribution to the education is enormously great. from the very beginning, Rayat Shikshan Sanstha tried all its best to lay emphasis on the education of the downtrodden, the poor and ignorant that really form the major bulk of society. Padmabhusan Dr. Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil believed that education alone could eradicate illiteracy, untouchability, caste hierarchy, money lending, superstitions, and socio- economic inequality.
All his life he tried to translate this belief into reality. He was the messiah of the poor and rightly opted the notion “Education through Self Help” as Sanstha’s motto. Inspired from the social reformers like Mahatma Phule, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, Kolhapur, Karmaveer Bhauaro Patil started free and residential hostel at Satara in 1924.
The hostel was open for all castes and religions when the crime of untouchability was at the peak. Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, the parent institution presently has a network of its branches spread like the branches of the benevolent banyan tree, an emblem of Sanstha.
