Rayat Shikshan Sanstha

Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, Satara is an esteemed educational institution that traces its roots back to the pre-independence era. Late Padmabhushan Dr. Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil recognized the underlying cause of poverty and dedicated himself to the field of education. The institution began its journey on October 4, 1919, with the establishment of a hostel to address the issue of student accommodation. Over the course of 100 years, it has grown into a magnificent institution, akin to a sprawling Banyan tree with numerous branches, serving society and continually expanding its educational offerings.

Today, Rayat Shikshan Sanstha is regarded as one of the largest and leading educational institutes in India, providing school education and higher education in various disciplines such as Arts, Commerce, Science, Law, Engineering, and Management. It is renowned for its commitment to both quality and quantity, making it the largest educational institution in Asia. With 737 branches, including 42 colleges, 1 research institute, 438 secondary schools, 8 training colleges, 51 primary schools, 33 pre-primary schools, 19 English medium schools, 91 hostels accommodating students from diverse backgrounds, 7 administrative offices, 8 residential schools, 2 ITIs, and 37 ancillary branches, the institution’s network spans 14 districts in Maharashtra and 1 district in Karnataka. These institutions cater to approximately 450,000 students and employ around 15,000 individuals.

The motto of Rayat Shikshan Sanstha is “Education through self-help,” and its goal is to provide education to all. The institution upholds the ideals of social justice, humanity, and equality. Notably, it follows a democratic and decentralized administration approach, ensuring effective and efficient governance, leadership, and management. The administrative structure consists of the General Body, the Managing Council, the Executive Council, and the Board of Life Members. The institution has appointed a Secretary, Joint Secretary (Higher & Secondary Education), and Regional Inspectors to implement policies, decisions, and reforms. Additionally, an Audit Department, headed by an Auditor, oversees financial matters and conducts audits for the institution as a whole.
